I thought Texas said NO to Common Core~

Not according to the Texas Education Service Centers who are funded with your tax dollars to serve Texas School Districts.

As reported by Ginger Russell.

Texas Education Service Centers Welcome Common Core!

Texas supposedly did not adopt the national Common Core Standards, in fact it was made illegal during the 83rd Texas Legislature through Texas Education Code 39.023 which states the following.

(a-3)  The agency may not adopt or develop a criterion-referenced assessment instrument under this section based on common core state standards as defined by Section 28.002(b-1).  This subsection does not prohibit the use of college advanced placement tests or international baccalaureate examinations as those terms are defined by Section 28.051.

But that has not stopped school district across the state from implementing them in their schools. Parents continue to come forward with worksheets students are bringing home based on Common Core standards. It doesn’t stop  there though. With the implementation of the controversial Curriculum CSCOPE, common core is in full force across the state of Texas. Cscope like Common Core has much more to do with a teaching philosophy based on the collective (project based learning)  and student data collection with assessments. Who is working non-stop on implementing common core in the Texas? The Texas Education Service Centers (ESC’s). The directors of the ESC’s are the ones who formed the bogus non-profit that owned CSCOPE. The ESC’s are have held and continue to hold conferences which focus  Common Core Standards.

Texas has 20 Education Service Center that have remained some obscure business entity until the CSCOPE discovery. Parents need to wake up. These ESC’s have created numerous business operating within the facilities and are still funded by the Texas tax payers.

COMMON CORE: Is Your Child a Spider Monkey or a Failure?
– by young Dennis

Next week my school is holding a meeting to explain to parents the Common Core curriculum. If I were to lead the meeting here is how I’d explain the disaster to them:

The Indo-Pacific sailfish is the fastest swimming fish in the sea. The cheetah is the fastest running land animal. The spider monkey is the fastest climbing animal. In their respective environments they excel above the rest. But lets put them all together in the same environment. And lets force the sailfish and cheetah to climb a tree in a race against the spider monkey. The sailfish and cheetah will surely lose. Therefore, we will now label the sailfish and cheetah as failures, and we will praise the spider monkey as a genius. Welcome to the Common Core.

The Common Core’s origins are sketchy. Out of the 27 people who first drafted the program, only 1 was a classroom teacher. Input was limited, and the Department of Education has been suspected of bribing states to adopt the Core. Furthermore, the Common Core will initiate standardized testing on children when they enter kindergarten (no childhood development experts were included in the decision). My little sister is just starting school and I fear these tests will destroy her capability to be innovative, thought-provoking, or even different. She like all the Common Core kids will be forced to follow a standard set of curriculum, with little leg room.

The complex tests will be time consuming and expensive to implement. Another issue is not every student excels at test taking, how many kids will be mislabeled? And how about privacy violations? The Common Core is a disaster in the making, and it seems politicians are fast tracking it down our throats. Soon, children will be considered idiotic sailfish and cheetahs because they can’t climb up a tree as fast as the spider monkey.

I can only imagine what my dad will say next week at that meeting. In the interim, I look forward to reading your comments about Common Core and I hope you found this article to be helpful.
